ecoway 82nd street

82 Street on Portland's east side is home to the majority of Portland's minority populations. Currently the 9 mile stretch of 82nd is not up to par with today's city standards. Lack of accessible sidewalks, open space, green space, community space, and access to food are all issues along the transit corridor.

This new plan for 82nd street calls for equitable access to land, fresh air and water, and access to food along with the addition of a variety of open community spaces. It develops a flexible framework for habitation that embraces the mosaic of subcultures and existing social fabric while improving the living conditions.

THE SOUTHERN GATEWAY

I chose to develop the southern portion of our plan further with an attention to community and where it settles: interpreting the existing forces in a meaningful and human way. Providing a procession from the natural landscape to the city while supporting and enhancing the daily life for not only those residing in the are but also those passing through. This is aided by the use of vernacular material and form, attention to the existing and liberation from the ubiquitous city grid.
